Congratulations to Year 9 student Poppy Beasant, who was a finalist in the National Youth Art Awards recently held at Arts Post in Hamilton.
During the awards ceremony, Poppy won first place in the 13-14 years age division as well as walking away with the top prize of the night, winning the National Youth Art Award. An incredible achievement for Poppy!
Poppy’s artwork “Freedom” asked the viewer to “consider the feeling experienced when riding. Everything fades away until it is just you and the horse without boundaries”.
The judges described an appreciation for the playful nature of this painting and a clear style for an artist of such a young age.
This year 397 works were submitted, and the judges had a difficult task to select 60 finalists, the largest number since the NYAA began in 2010. St. Peter’s had four finalists, Veer Parshotam, Max Kind, Poppy Beasant, and Liv Pardoe. We traditionally have many art students entering this annual award with multiple successes over the years across all categories. Students can select a range of media and create work in any subject matter of their choice.
The exhibition runs until Monday 11 August. We hope you can visit to view and celebrate, all our student’s success. Our warmest congratulations to Poppy for this outstanding achievement.
